Grading Policy

  • Class participation (individual attendance included) 30%
  • Term project (group topic talks included) 30%
  • Test performance 40%
       (1) Pre-test 5% + Midterm 15% 
  •    (2) Post-test 5% + Final 15%

    Notes:
    • The POST-TEST session begins on 6/19 (9 AM) and will be closed on 6/24 (9 PM). 
      To take the test, please log on the e-learning site (http://120.107.186.81/amc_elrn/Login.aspx).
      Remember that your username and password are the same as those for the NCUE online course selection system. (請注意你的登入帳密同學校選課系統!)
      If you need help, feel free to contact the teacher by email or a post below.
    • Students who have passed the English benchmark of the department will receive extra marks (but cancelled when they fail to reach 60 at each of the items above).

    On 6/17, please bring back to class YOUR FOLDER that contains the following texts.
    • Class handouts 1-6 (New TOEIC test booklet included)
    • Group outlines from topic talk 1 (extra work for extra marks included)
    • Midterm testsheet

    Note that your teacher will return back to you the group outlines from topic talk 2.

    Reminder: FINAL Preparation

    Our final is coming! Please note that the final will take place on 6/17!

    Also remember that the final will cover the following class materials.
    (a) All the class handouts (VOA expressions included)
    (b) All the Studio Classroom magazines (including the issues in March, April, and June)
    (c) All the outside readings from your topic talk 2

    The exam will include both listening and reading comprehension questions.
    (40-50 questions in total.)
    (1) Listening section: pictures, best responses, short conversations, short talks
    (2) Reading section: vocabulary, sentence/text completion, reading comprehension

    Note that the session begins today (5/1, 9 AM) and will be closed next Wednesday (5/6, 4 PM) and that a new session will begin on 5/14 (9 AM) and be closed on 5/17 (9 PM).

    Reminder: FINAL Preparation

    Our final is coming! Please note that the final will take place on 1/14!

    Also remember that the final will cover
    (a) all the word lists (topics 1-15), and 
    (b) both November magazine (11/1-30) and December magazine (12/1-31).

    The exam will include both listening and reading comprehension questions (4 question types each, similar to our pretest, though only 25 questions in total).
    • Listening: picture description (2 questions), question and response (5), short conversation (3), short talk (2)
    • Reading: sentence completion (6 questions), reading comprehension (2), text completion (5), Chinese-to-English translation (EXTRA 5 for a total of 10 bonus points)

    Be sure to read ALL the outside readings shared by the groups during their topic talks 1 and 2!

    Note that the teacher will pick out 1 to 2 articles to test your reading comprehension ability in the final exam.
